Hello Mykel here !!!

Postby iwantmyberninanow81 » Mon May 24, 2010 11:58 pm

Hello all !!! I am having such difficulty , i have read countless brochures on Bernina and yet i still cant make up my mind. So heres a littlw insight on my dillema. I am a twenty eight year old stylist / designer in manhatten . I am finally at a point where i can purchase a work hoarse like Bernina yet i have no clue which model to get . I am really leaning toward the bernina 450 (not the quilter/fashion edition) i want a machine with industry standards (9mm stitch) and the ability to flourish and grow with it . If ANYONE can let me know there thoughts and insight on the 450 i would be forever greatful ... its gonna be my first bernina baby !! lol :D

Welcome
I think your choice of the 450 is excellent. There are many on this forum who are 450 owners and I am sure they will chime in soon. I don't have that model but I have heard nothing but praise for it. So glad you will choose a Bernina as they are the best. I have a 230 and a 640 and love them both equally

As you know, the 450 is an Aurora and as such, you will need to use your computer with it to do any embroidery. If you don't anticipate doing any embroidery or if using your computer with it is not a problem, the Auroras are great sewing computers.

If only it was that easy
To embroider your own artwork you must digitize it into a stitch design then transfer the design to the embroidery machine. I am only familiar with the Bernina Artista V6 which is expensive but does everything you want.
There are many sites that can explain the process to you.
Check out Artista V6 here:

This is another site:

You can bay a embroidery modul for you machine. and you have to bay an embroiderysoftware that can digitize, eks. designer plus, whits is very god, the best i have used, and expensive, but there are others out there.

Yes, the 450 can embroider but what they are saying is you must physically attach your computer TO it via a cable. If that does not bother you, the 450 is probably my favorite garment-making machine out there. To create a design in the way you are saying, you need software that runs on your computer. Bernina has the Designer software which is VERY complete. There are simpler programs available, but each has its limitation. What you need to decide here is how much creativity you are going to put into your designs. If you will mostly be using designs already available online, you don't need all the features of the Designer program, but if you are going to, as you say, scan and then alter and modify designs, you will appreciate the versatility of the Designer program. I am not familiar with some of the others out there, but you can probably look through our embroidery section and find some info.

If the idea of having your computer physically attached to the machine bothers you, you may want to look at an Artista model instead of an Aurora..either a 730 or a 640 would provide the 9mm stitch width.

And NO ONE here is going to laugh about being bonded to your machine. You are in your element here for sure!!!
