I have been dedicated to sewing since age 16. Before age 16, I despised it and nearly failed a required sewing class in junior high school. I used a second or third hand Singer Golden Touch and Sew when I was in college. I spent as much time taking it to the shop as I did sewing on it, therefore, I was happy to trade it in on my very first Bernina (Nova 900) in 1980. Since then, I've purchased other machines to add to my collection. I've given away two machines recently, (Singer 503 and Viking 1+) reducing my collection to 11 machines; I think.

Only a few of them are packed away in boxes. I have a Singer Treadle with a rotary hook bobbin, my grandmother's 1938 Singer, Singer 301A, Singer 221k, Spartan (Singer knock-off given to me by a friend,) a strange little machine called a Portman-it looks like it is made from aircraft sheet metal, Bernina 900 Nova, Bernina 1260, Bernina 830E, Pfaff 7570, and Bernina 1150MDA serger. I've purchased and traded in several sergers; only keeping one at a time. I learned to sew from grandmother and whatever techniques I learned from reading sewing books;pre-internet. The majority my sewing prior to 1995 was home dec, garments, and alterations. I was a quilt guild member for three years. Since then my quilting has increased and other types of sewing have decreased; evident by the stack of mending in my sewing closet. For three years, I made window treatments and performed garment alterations for profit.
