Hello from Alabama

Postby sewnonni » Sun Jun 27, 2010 10:36 pm

I am so glad to be a part of Bernina Central. I have an Aurora 430 and Bernina 2000D serger, the serger is an oldie, but still works great. I have owned three Bernina in my sewing history and worked for a Bernina/Heirloom shop years ago. I love sewing especially for my three grandchildren..so much fun. I'm looking forward to reading and getting inspired through Bernina Central.

Welcome, sewnonni. Sewing for kids is great fun. Every now and then I make something for some kid I hardly know since I am not quite in grandparent stage yet (I should probably be thankful for that given mine are only 20!) A Bernina heirloom shop sounds interesting. Can you tell us about it? I'm not really even sure what heirloom really is...I have to confess. Does that mean it is a garment meant to be passed down to future generations or is it a special technique or.... (I should know this!!)

I'm in the same boat as you, Molly, but you just admitted it first. I also think the name suggests handing down to future generations, but when I see something that is "heirloom" it usually is made of batiste and has delicate looking embroidery on it (usually white on white) and tiny lace inserts and pin tucks, etc. I've seen nightgowns, baby things, etc. that were called heirloom.

I know there are heirloom sewists on this board who can give a much better definition, so I'll get out of here!
